How did you find out about emita and what benefits do you find the most valuable?
I believe we responded to your email campaign. The topics seemed pertinent to our objectives to develop overseas business. The seminars are informative and the speakers are generally very knowledgeable. You gain an insight from very well informed and well-connected people! I find the strategic topics very important as generally it is impossible to find this much ‘spare’ time to read up and research macro-economics; who would you choose to listen to? Also when the time is right I am looking forward to utilise the support network to develop target markets overseas.
How long has your company been active in the export / import market and which countries do you currently trade with?
Itarus Limited began exporting to Europe in 1996 by opening a sales office in Holland which allowed trade with Holland, Germany and Scandinavia. Today our digital prepress files are supplied all around the world; China, India and Russia to name a few.
What has been your biggest exporting / importing challenge?
It is without doubt overcoming the naivety that is inevitable in the early stages of a developing business plan to expand internationally. The insight provided into subtle cultural nuances, the dos don’ts when following a sales lead can make all the difference between success and failure! It is so useful talking to people who have been there and done it!
What’s the most helpful piece of international trade advice you have received?
There is no single piece of advice really; it is an accumulation of many ‘snippets’ of advice as speakers share their experience or other members describe ways of avoiding mistakes they have made. I have always learned something directly or been prompted to research further some ‘tip’ or cautionary tale to avoid unnecessary problems.
The most helpful learning is that there is support out there and in particular help to travel in order to research markets or take the first steps to find new customers or partners to help you explore the potential of export markets.
What does the future hold? Any particular markets you are looking to target next?
We are very excited as we research and plan to take our software around the globe! Initially we will address Australia, America and of course further growth in Europe. We want to revolutionise the way any company can understand and map its business processes for improved efficiency, stakeholder alignment and industry compliance.
