How did you find out about emita and what benefits do you find the most valuable?
We discovered EMITA through our participation in the UKTI Passport to Export Programme and have remained members ever since.
Learning of other members experiences in export generally and various markets specifically give invaluable insights and help shape our approach. The general networking nature of EMITA events are also a valuable benefit of membership.
How long has your company been active in the export / import market and which countries do you currently trade with?
Cargopak has been active in import since its inception, as we manufacture the high volume products in our Chinese facilities before we finish and assemble them at Tuxford.
Export began in an ad-hoc manner as a response to our UK customer’s overseas requirements before we established a dedicated department two years ago. We currently trade with Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, Australia and UAE.
What made you decide to expand your business overseas?
The prime drivers for expanding our export business were twofold; firstly and most obvious was to increase our overall sales and secondly to reduce our reliance and exposure to the domestic UK market.
What has been your biggest exporting / importing challenge?
Prospecting for new customers is probably the single biggest exporting challenge we have encountered. It is easy to find, contact and understand the requirements of UK customers converting them however is always a challenge, with export customers finding, contacting and understanding have all to be overcome before converting.
What’s the most helpful piece of international trade advice you have received?
Making use of quality translation services for websites, brochures and customer communications has probably been the best single piece of trade advice we have received. Without this we cannot be found or our product offer understood. Use of quality translation has undoubtedly helped us reach new export customers.
What does the future hold? Any particular markets you are looking to target next?
The future for Cargopak is entering an exciting phase as we plan to expand and develop our production facility at Tuxford. This will give the company enhanced capacity to service our domestic and International customers. We feel that there is plenty of growth for our products in our existing export markets; however we will be keeping an interested eye on the emerging markets as their logistics systems become more sophisticated.
