Please provide a company background including when it was established, where it is located, how many staff you employ etc.


Alex Reid Limited was established over 100 years ago supplying consumables to the commercial laundry sector, building a reputation for quality products and industry leading customer care. The business grew to be the largest provider in the Dry Cleaning industry and now has over 60 years experience in the supply of chemicals, machinery and service to the sector.


Please provide an overview of the products and services offered and areas of specialisation.


The company is a sector leading company in the dry cleaning industry having built strong relationships with both suppliers of machinery and solvents. They offer a high standard service and operate from 2 locations in Leicester with of 50,000 sq/feet of warehousing which gives them the ability to stock over 3,000 products which are available to dispatch for next day delivery. Their export customers benefit from the ability to order large volumes which minimises delivery costs and deliver economies of scale.


Alex Reid Limited are proud to have worked with Firbimatic spa for over 20 years and are the exclusive UK distributor of Dry Cleaning technology. They offer a full range of other machines from brands such as Sidi, Camptel, Trevill and Barbanti.


How did you find out about emita and what benefits do you find the most valuable?


Alex Reid Limited was introduced to emita by their local Chambers of Commerce in Leicester.


How long has your company been active in the export / import market and which countries do you currently trade with?


The company has been active in exports for more than 20 years and currently trade in 30 plus countries.


What made you decide to expand your business overseas?


They decided to expand due to the growing demand in overseas markets.


What has been your biggest exporting / importing challenge?


The largest challenge so far was a large container order to Nigeria which took several months to complete from start to finish.


What’s the most helpful piece of international trade advice you have received?


Information received on market research has been extremely beneficial with links and websites on how to identify new markets and prioritising existing markets.


What does the future hold? Any particular markets you are looking to target next?


Alex Reid Limited are currently in the process of setting up a distributor in Nigeria with a view to expanding sales with our existing customers and generating business in new areas such as hotels, and hospitals.
